Board of Directors
Friends volunteer board consists of dedicated individuals, some with decades of professional experience in biology, geology, geography, history, planning, public policy, watershed management or wildfire. Board members serve terms of three years, with staggered expirations. New board members and officers are elected at annual meetings held in May.
Current Board Members
Sandra Guldman, President
Sandy has volunteered with Friends of Corte Madera Creek Watershed since 1997, working on fish passage, flood management, habitat restoration, watershed planning, and water quality.
Gerhard Epke, Vice President
Gerhard lives in the Ross Valley at the confluence of San Anselmo and Sorich Creeks and has been on the board for about 12 years. Growing up in Ross Valley, he attended schools along Sleepy Hollow Creek, Fairfax Creek and Ross Creek. He then studied hydrologic sciences at UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis and spent ten years working as a flood control and stormwater project manager for local public works departments. He now works for the Marin Resource Conservation District administering water quality projects in West Marin and teaches a watershed management course at University of San Francisco.
Ann Thomas, Secretary
Ann grew up in Boston Area. She has been Marin resident since 1969 and a Friends board member since 1997, currently serving as board secretary. She is also secretary-treasurer for Marin Open Space Trust.
Nicholas Salcedo, Treasurer
Raised in Fairfax, Nick grew up in the watershed’s creeks. A graduate of College of Marin, UC Santa Barbara, and San Francisco State, studying natural resources and environmental planning, he was well prepared for his 30-year career in planning and resource management at local, state and federal levels. Today, as a Board member of 20 plus years, he continues his pursuit of making the creeks of Corte Madera Creek Watershed better.
Charles Kennard
Charlie was a documentary photographer for many years before switching gradually to basket-weaving. Both these activities brought him close to the natural landscape and its plants, and he applies what he has learned to habitat restoration projects for Friends, and to the creation of a basketry garden at the Marin Art and Garden Center in Ross.
Laura Lovett
Laura is embarked on a journey to learn ways to know and repair the health of our living landscape, and to find motivation for effecting positive change. She spent 45 years working in the field of information design, understanding how to communicate issues, barriers, and motivations more effectively. Laura also is a board member of the Marin Chapter of the California Native Plant Society, and maintains 5 public gardens aimed at showing people how tough and beautiful our native plants can be.
Alycia Matz
Alycia is a Restoration Project Manager with Point Blue Conservation Science’s STRAW program (Students and Teachers Restoring a Watershed). She coordinates the planning, implementation, and maintenance of STRAW’s restoration work at the Novato Baylands, a 2,600-acre wetland restoration site owned by the California State Coastal Conservancy. As a member of the Friends’ Board since 2022, Alycia enjoys contributing her knowledge of hands-on, community-based restoration to the team. Alycia holds a M.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences from University of Illinois Urbana – Champaign.
Dr. Dayna Quick

She was a leading force in the acquisition and permanent protection of more than 1,000 acres of habitat and the restoration of approximately 600 acres of tidal and diked marsh along San Francisco and San Pablo Bays. For this work she has been recognized by receiving the National Wetlands Award, Women’s Hall of Fame, Pacific Sun’s Heroes of Marin, and the Estuary Legacy Award from the SF Estuary Partnership.
