Join Marin County Parks and One Tam staff (a Tamalpais Lands Collaborative initiative) to enrich important habitat areas at Hal Brown Park and Creekside Marsh. Be a part of a community based effort to create a diverse palette of native plants at a site once dominated by nonnative grasses and weeds. Volunteer work is mildly strenuous and involves bending, pulling, and kneeling and hiking on steep and uneven terrain. It is possible for volunteers as young as 5 years old to join if teamed with a parent or guardian. Dress in layers you can get dirty, wear sturdy shoes, and bring water. Turn left onto Bon Air Rd and follow 0.3 miles. The park is on the right.
Join County Open Space in maintaining the Porcupine and White Hill trails! We will split into teams and work our way down over a one-mile span of trail. Breakfast snacks, a hearty lunch, drinks, tools, gloves and training are provided. Bring layered clothing, gloves, a water bottle and a small pack for storing water and sturdy hiking boots. DIRECTIONS: From Highway 101 in Larkspur, take the Sir Francis Drake Blvd. (SFDB) exit and head west through Fairfax to the crest of White’s Hill. Brown Bridge is approximately 2.5 miles past the town of Fairfax. Look for signs. Please use the trail underneath Brown Bridge instead of crossing busy Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Park on the shoulder of Brown Bridge and meet at the entrance to White Hill trail.
Celebrate Ring Mountain Preserve for County Parks 16th annual “Fling on Ring” community event! Join us for a day of environmental education and community service. We’ll remove invasive French broom to help restore native grassland that make Ring Mountain special. Drop in days are held on the last Saturday of every month (except November and December). All skill levels are welcome and no previous experience is necessary. All ages are welcome; anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a supervising adult. Dress in layers you can get dirty, wear sturdy shoes, and bring water. Please bring gloves if you have them. Snacks, lunch, and extra water will be provided. DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 101 in Corte Madera, take the exit for Tamalpais Dr east. Go straight onto San Clemente, which merges into Paradise Dr after 0.4 miles. Follow Paradise Dr approximately 1.7 miles, turn right onto Taylor Rd, and follow to end (dead end).
Volunteers for MMWD will focus on containing the spread of French and Scotch broom mono-cultures and also eradicate pioneer patches. Habitat restoration begins at 9 a.m. Substantial sandwiches follow field work at noon.
This project requires a mile hike or ride uphill to the project site on Worn Springs Fire Road. Carpooling and biking encouraged. The gate at Natalie Coffin Greene Park in Ross will be open until 9 a.m. to allow cars to drive up and park next to the dam. RSVPs encouraged but not required.
• 8:45 a.m. – Volunteer registration and welcome at Phoenix Lake dam
• 9 a.m. – Hike or bike up to the restoration site
• 9:15 a.m. – noon – Break up into teams and begin work
• Noon -1 p.m. – Lunch celebration at Phoenix Lake
