Flood Control Zone 9 Advisory Board Meeting @ San Anselmo Town Hall
Apr 16 @ 7:00 pm

A full range of alternative flood control measures, including flood detention basins and ideas eliminated through the years, are being considered in a review of the Ross Valley Flood Protection and Watershed Program. A draft plan is expected to be completed by June.
The Marin County Flood Control & Water Conservation District has initiated the review to analyze the proposed measures that would help prevent flooding in Zone 9, comprised of the chronically vulnerable Ross Valley communities of Fairfax, San Anselmo, Larkspur, Ross, Kentfield and Greenbrae. The goal will be to arrive at the most viable and publicly accepted plan for flood reduction in areas near Corte Madera Creek.
Alternatives will be laid out at the April 16 meeting of the Flood Zone 9 Advisory Board at San Anselmo Town Hall, 525 San Anselmo Avenue.

Earth Day Service Projects with County Parks
Apr 25 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

The creation of Earth Day on April 22, 1970 marked what many consider to be the birth of the environmental movement. Today it is regarded as the largest civic event in the world. This year’s theme: “It’s Our Turn to Lead”, is one that Marin residents have embraced since the first Earth Day celebrations. Let’s keep up the good work, Marin! Join us to clean-up and restore Bothin Marsh, Corte Madera Creek, Hal Brown Park, or Ring Mountain; be part of the fun and the Earth Day legacy! Look to get involved locally; visit earthdaymarin for a complete list of Earth Day service projects happening in Marin County. All skill levels are welcome and no previous experience is necessary. All ages are welcome; anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

Ring Mountain Grassland Restoration Project
Apr 25 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

Join Marin County Parks for our monthly drop-in volunteer workday as we focus on restoring the grasslands of Ring Mountain! Ring Mountain is home to numerous rare and endangered plants, but this habitat is being threatened by invasive species. Volunteer work may include invasive species removal, seed collecting, tarping, and/or installing native plants. Educational components are included as we discuss the plants and animals that inhabit this unique place and explain how volunteer activities are having a positive impact. Drop-in days are held on the last Saturday of every month (except November and December). Volunteer work is mildly strenuous and involves bending, pulling, and kneeling, and usually requires a short hike to the site. Dress in layers you can get dirty, wear sturdy shoes, and bring water. Please bring gloves if you have them. Snacks and extra water will be provided. In the event of heavy rain and/or high winds call (415) 473-5058 to find out about event status. RSVP’s are appreciated but not required. Questions or to RSVP: Contact Ring Mountain Stewardship Coordinator Sarah Minnick at (415) 473-5058 or SMinnick@marincounty.org. Meet at the gate at the end of Taylor Rd in Tiburon. DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 101 in Corte Madera, take the exit for Tamalpais Dr east. Go straight onto San Clemente, which merges into Paradise Dr after 0.4 miles. Follow Paradise Dr approximately 1.7 miles, turn right onto Taylor Rd, and follow to end (dead end).
