Greening Up Hal Brown: Soil Revival & Native Planting
Mar 16 @ 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Get your hands dirty and make a difference! Volunteer at Hal Brown Park as we restore marsh habitat near a newly installed bridge over Corte Madera Creek. This marsh is just one vital part of the watershed that supports salmonid fish.

Marin Water hosts AmeriCorps fellows through the Watershed Stewards Program (WSP), who are leading this service project at Hal Brown Park. The WSP fellows support the District’s stewardship responsibilities on the Mt. Tam Watershed and in surrounding watersheds such as Lagunitas Creek and Corte Madera Creek. By joining this volunteer project, you will help to support all the interconnected species in our county. This event, co-sponsored by Marin County Parks and Marin Water, is a hands-on opportunity to learn about native plants, improve local ecosystems and connect with fellow nature lovers.

What to expect:
• Kick off the morning with a quick safety talk
• Revitalize the soil by mixing in compost and removing invasive weeds
• Plant nearly 300 native species including saltgrass, pickleweed and marsh gumplant (generously donated by Friends of Corte Madera Creek)
• Lunch is provided
Registration is required. All experience levels and abilities are welcome. Volunteers should be comfortable using hand tools, bending, kneeling and lifting.

Please dress appropriately, wear close-toed shoes and bring a water bottle. Tools, gloves, water and lunch will be provided. Event will occur rain or shine; in case of extreme weather call 650-468-9618 after 7 a.m. the morning of the event for updates.
